The Langkawi archipelago is a cluster of 99 islands just off the coast of Kedah, close to Perlis and just south of Thailand.

Tasik Kenyir (Kenyir lake)

Located in the interior part of Terengganu, Kenyir Lake is the largest man-made lake in Southeast Asia. Covering an area of 369 sq. km, it is also Malaysia's largest rock-filled hydroelectric dam. Sharing its border with Kelantan in the west and Pahang in the south, this immense lake also servers as another gateway to Malaysia's National Park.

With about 340 islands, which were once hilltops and highlands, more than 14 waterfalls, and numerous rapids and rivers, Tasik Kenyir is also home to numerous species of freshwater fishes and exotic wildlife. Surrounded by a lush tropical jungle, the Kenyir Lake is a popular and ideal retreat for nature lovers, anglers, photo enthusiasts and fun seekers. Some of the activities that could be carried out here are fishing, watersports, canoeing, boating, bird watching, cave exploration, and jungle trekking.

The most important gateway to Tasik Kenyir is Pengkalan Gawi. It offers the services of a Tourist Information Centre, a parking area, a jetty and various water sports facilities for rental. Its strategic location also makes it the nearest gateway to Malaysia's well known National Park Taman Negara in the neighbouring state of Pahang.

Tasik Kenyir is merely 65km from Kuala Terengganu's Sultan Mahmud Airport, served daily by flights from Kuala Lumpur and Singapore. Cruise leisurely on a 500km drive from Kuala Lumpur or 900km from Singapore via the North-South expressway and roads that run through Malaysian lush tropical rainforests and jungles to the resort.

The resort offers it's own own coach transfers which depart from Sultan Mahmud Airport in Kuala Terengganu daily to shuttle visitors. Some public taxis also ply these routes.

Lasir Waterfall is one of the many spectacular waterfalls within Lake Kenyir. It's a lovely waterfall, that occurred at a boundary between two different rock types. It's a fall from about 500 feet high. The waterfall drops gracefully into multi-tiered levels of boulders forming sprays of water. Ponds of water are available at eash of the 5 levels of Lasir and one can enjoy a cold refreshing bath here. There are large camping area and hiking trail up to its top. The fall is well shaded by the canopy of the surrounding forest.

Taman Negara or National Park

Taman Negara (National Park) straddles the borders of Kelantan, Terengganu and Pahang in Peninsular Malaysia. A totally protected area of 4,343 sq km, Taman Negara is one of the world's oldest tropical rain forests. The diversity of its fauna and flora is a result of undisturbed evolution over 130 million years.

Taman Negara is a particularly favorable destination for trekking, as the park's remarkable biodiversity is matched by a good network of jungle trails and the availability of expert guides. The park is also noted for fishing, especially along the upper reaches of the Tahan or Kenyam rivers, and for rafting the rapids of Sungai Tembeling.

Peninsular Malaysia's highest mountain, Gunung Tahan (2,187 meters), is located in Taman Negara, and climbing the mountain is an unforgettable experience. Due to the scarcity of water along the route, the journey must be done in two stages, and an experienced guide is compulsory. At least three days are required for the journey to the summit and back.

On the southern edge is Kuala Tahan, the park's headquarters, linked to the outside world by river. A three-hour river trip is the only overland route; an alternative is to take a flight from Kuala Lumpur to Taman Negara.

Le Tour de Langkawi 2007

Ok let's talk about "le tour de langkawi".What is it?I think some of you know about "le tour de france right"?

Le Tour de Langkawi is an annual cycling race which is held in Malaysia. The name of the event comes from the starting point of the first few editions, in Langkawi, Kedah, although some later editions did not include Langkawi in the race at all. The race is part of the UCI Asia Tour.

Jersey colours

Throughout its race history, varying colours of jerseys have been awarded to the current leader and overall winner of several of the race's classifications.

General Classification
Yellow Jersey, which is fashioned after the maillot jaune worn by the overall leader and final winner in the Tour de France, despite the fact that the sponsoring company is Telekom Malaysia, which does not have yellow in its logo or marketing. However, 2006 marked the end of Telekom Malaysia as tile sponsor since 2001, the Proton came as replacement as jersey sponsor, while the traditional color is not change, the jersey also adding blue color as stripe to match the logo.

Mountains Classification
White with Red Polka Dot Jersey, which is based upon the leader of the King of the Mountains in the Tour de France and selected by its sponsor, the Genting Group.

Sprint Classification
Blue Jersey, which is sponsored by Proton. Prior to 2004, Petronas sponsored the jersey as the Green Jersey but dropped its sponsorship when the stage race was branded as TM Le Tour de Langkawi. But 2007 marked the comeback of Petronas as the jersey sponsor, and it armend to green jersey again.

Best Asian Rider
White, Blue and Red Jersey since 2006 when the Tourism Board of Malaysia became the sponsor after financial problems with Malaysian Airlines, which sponsored the classification as the Blue and Red Jersey. After Telekom Malaysia lost the title sponsorship in 2007, they came in to sponsor this jersey, the color is back to traditional blue.

Kuala Lumpur is the capital and the largest city of Malaysia. Kuala Lumpur is one of the three Malaysian Federal Territories. It is an enclave within the state of Selangor, on the central west coast of Peninsular Malaysia. Within Malaysia, the city is commonly referred to as KL.

The city previously hosted the Malaysian judiciary and executive arms. With the completion of Putrajaya in the late 1990s, both arms have since migrated to Putrajaya, though sections of the judicial branch still remain in Kuala Lumpur. The Malaysian Parliament still operates in the city, and thus the city remains the legislative capital of the country.

Visit Malaysia Year 2007, (also known as Visit Malaysia 2007 or VMY 2007, an initialism as it has been always called), is a main event in Malaysia to celebrate 50 years of nationhood and independence. It is the third edition of Visit Malaysia Year event, following two previous successful efforts in 1990 and in 1994. It began in New Year's Day, that is, on January 1, 2007.

Objectives of the Campaign

To aggressively develop and market Malaysia as a major international tourist destination.
To further increase foreign tourist arrivals to Malaysia.
To encourage visitors to extend their stay and to increase their spending while holidaying in the country.
To popularise and promote tourism-related activities, programmes and events showcasing the uniqueness of Malaysia as a tourist destination.
To stimulate the growth of domestic tourism.

VMY 2007 Logo

The word 'Malaysia' is written in strong freehand both to permit conformity with the overall design proposal as well as the Malaysia, Truly Asia tagline while providing the suggestion of a liberal nation and accommodating population. It is intended to portray a level of casualness and a lack of formality for visitors.

The five dots of the stamen represents fifty years of independence and reinforces Tourism Malaysia's existing logo. The imagery also denotes Malaysia's rising prominence in the region as a modern nation as well as being indicative of hope and happiness.

The text 'Visit' & numerals '2007' in similar bold freehand is used to reinforce and complement the word 'Malaysia'. The use of red offsets and reinforces the blue of 'Malaysia'.

'Celebrating 50 Years of Nationhood' carries with it the idea of self governance and freedom.

Centred within the logo is a heart-shaped petal which signifies Malaysia's warmth in welcoming the world with open arms and heart. It also forms the primary and most prominent petal of the design.

Visit Malaysia Year 2007 was officially openned on 7th January at Lake Titiwangsa, Kuala Lumpur.There were a firework display and also the official launching of Eye On Malaysia as well, the first Ferris Wheel ever built in Malaysia.I am sharing some of the photos here. Malaysia Festivals and Fiestas.

One of the significant characteristics of Malaysian culture is its celebration of various festivals and events. The year is filled with colorful, exhilarating and exciting activities. Some are religious and solemn but others are vibrant, joyous events.

One interesting feature of the main festivals here is the 'open house' custom. This is when Malaysians celebrating the festival invite friends to come by their homes for some traditional delicacies and fellowship. Festivals such as Hari Raya AidilFitri are celebrated mostly in the villages or home towns of the urbanites.

Every year before the festival, Muslims nationwide balik kampung or return to their home towns to meet family and friends. These family reunions are also celebrated during other main festivals in the country. With people decked our in their traditional finery, these festivals are an integral feature of Malaysian society. Festival dates may vary from year to year as some are based upon the lunar calendar.

Thaipusam -January

The sights and sounds of thousands of devotees carrying kavadis, or ornate frames as penance, makes this an extraordinary festival to witness at the Batu Caves in Selangor, or in Penang (also known as Pulau Pinang).

Chinese New Year - February

The Lunar New Year is celebrated by the Chinese throughout the world and here in Malaysia it's just as joyful with an abundance of food and family gatherings.

Malaysia Water Festival - April to May

All over Malaysia, visitors can enjoy an entire month of water-based activities and have a splashing good time participating in a host of aquatic sports.

Tadau Ka'amatan - 30-31 May

Thanksgiving is offered to the spirit of the padi, Bambaazon, by the KadazanDusun in Sabah. Abundant rice wine or tuak, delicious food, dancing and other festivities take place as a part of the celebrations.

Wesak - May

Religious offerings and rituals such as the 'bathing of the Buddha', chanting of sutras, lighting of joss sticks and ordination of monks take place in Buddhist temples around the country.

This event kicks off with a colorful parade displaying the diversity of Malaysian culture through music and dance.

Gawai - 1-2 June

The Ibans, Orang Ulu and Bidayuh in Sarawak celebrate this harvest festival where traditional ceremonies and dances are held in various 'long houses' or communal homes around the state.

Food and Fruits Fiesta - July

This is your chance to sample the best of Malaysia's tempting local delicacies such as satay and nasi lemak, tropical fruits and delectable desserts during this month-long fiesta.

National Day - 31 August

Malaysians everywhere celebrate Merdeka Day or the nation's independence on this day.

Lantern and Mooncake Festival (Mid-Autumn) - September

This festival has become to symbolize a quite celebration of peace and shared prosperity. Take delight in the colorful lanterns displayed during this time while enjoying the variety of mooncakes available.

Deepavali - November

Hindus celebrate this festival of light by adorning their homes with oil lamps, taking a ritual morning bath and offering ceremonial prayers in temples.

Hari Raya AidilFitri - November

The holy month of Ramadan culminates in the celebration of Hari Raya AidilFitri for Muslims around the world. Special morning prayers are held in mosques and visits are made to homes of friends and relatives.

Redang, situated 45 km off the coast of Kuala Terengganu, is the largest of all Terengganu's islands. From the very first glance, Redang will enchant visitors with its compelling beauty. The island boast two beautiful beaches, the Long Beach or locally known as Pasir Panjang, situated on the east coast and Teluk Dalam Kecil, a sheltered cove tucked away on the northeast of the island. Stretching over 800 m, Pasir Panjang is a dream come true for sun-seekers. Fusiliers, Scorpionfish, Rabbitfish and Christmas Tree Worms are among the sight which will leave snorkellers spellbound.

Lang Tengah, a 30 minute boat ride from Redang, is one of the state's best kept secrets. Located midway between the islands Redang and Perhentian, its sparkling white sand and aquamarine waters are simply irresistible. Getting There
By Road

Travel along the East Coast Highway from Kuala Lumpur to Kuala Terengganu. Merang, the take-off point to Redang and Lang Tengah, is located about an hour's drive north of Kuala Terengganu. Visitors to Perhentian can drive all the way north to the Kuala Besut jetty.

By Air

Malaysia Airlines and budget carrier AirAsia provide direct air services from the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) to Kuala Terengganu and Kota Bharu in Kelantan (the nearest airport to Kuala Besut). Berjaya Air operates daily direct flight from the Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport in Kuala Lumpur to Redang.

By Sea

Regular boat services are available to the islands. the journey to Redang and Lang Tengah take about 1 1/2 hours while the boat ride to Perhentian takes about an hour.
